“Aunt Coco’s Bees” by Nina, age 7

28 Feb

Dreaming and drawing bees is the only solace left a beekeeper during the cold quiet winter months.

When she was 5, Nina visited me in Albuquerque and held a boy bee in her hand for the very first time. It’s the only thing she remembers from her trip and still she dreams of bees.

Great idea! I’ll have to ask my sis to keep the originals for me.

HI. Just saw Nina’s drawings – wow. Also thought you might like to know that the Pacific Northwest year seems to be shaping up like 2010: a late, cold, wet (non)spring. I am continuing on my campaign to not take what honey the bees make from the summer flow. We don’t have top feeders on our colonies – I’m very concerned that they will starve if we don’t get feed on them soon…

Hi Pam, good to hear from you and even better to hear that you left your girls plenty of resources this year. Sounds like they’ll need it! When will the nectar flow start for you, do you think?
